Dave puts his science, community-building and sustainability passions to work at GeoEngineers as a principal geologist. His technical practice involves site assessment and remediation for urban or waterfront properties that are ripe for redevelopment. Integrating his knowledge of geology and dedication to sustainability, Dave has developed a ground source heat pump practice for the firm and encourages staff to focus on low-impact development, stormwater infiltration and brownfields (industrial or commercial sites that are underused because of environmental pollution) projects.

Dave likes the freedom he has at GeoEngineers to think and do things creatively, and says he is inspired by his colleagues every day. “Add in the fact that what we do changes every day, and it makes me feel like there are no boundaries to what we can accomplish in the earth-science world,” he reflects. Dave is a leader both within the company and in the community, where he is a board member for Seattle’s Great City and Seattle’s 2030 District and is actively involved in Engineers Without Borders.

A few years ago, Dave reenergized his career by completing the Executive Management Program at the University of Washington School of Business. He explains, “The program instilled in me the need for geologists, scientists and engineers to stand up and be heard; for us to act with integrity to help others understand how important our profession is to the world.”

Dave says he tries to get out into the wilderness frequently. This could be a quick trip to Discovery Park, a backpack trip to the Cascades or a few weeks in Bolivia, where he mentors the University of Washington Engineers Without Borders chapter. As a former collegiate soccer player, he is also an avid fan of Sounders FC, Seattle’s Major League Soccer team.
