After several years of switching majors as an undergraduate, Bruce took a water quality/pollution assessment class and decided from that point on that he wanted to work in the environmental field. He later went on to earn a master’s degree in environmental science and engineering. “I am very connected to the environment,” Bruce commented. “I like working in a field where I can make a difference in how our built environment can co-exist with our natural environment. Time can’t be reversed, but we can influence how we move forward from here.”

All of Bruce’s project management, public presentation and technical skills came together on the award-winning Tacoma Nature Center, SR16 HOV/Snake Lake Mitigation project, which involved a complex mix of wetland mitigation, permitting, stakeholder involvement and road improvements. “This project was a turning point in my development of transporation planning, and I will take everything I learned and experienced into the next phase of my career,” Bruce noted.

Bruce describes himself as very goal-oriented. In college, he was an All-American middle-distance runner, was PAC-10 champion at 1500M and broke the four-minute mile. When he’s not in town, he hikes, runs, climbs, fishes and skis in the wild and scenic areas throughout the Pacific Northwest.
