When clients are facing a difficult challenge with the soft soils of the Gulf South, Charlie Eustis is their go-to guy. For 40 years, Charlie has studied the unique conditions in the region and found practical geotechnical solutions to help projects move forward. He is most proud of the more than 30 Louisiana coastal restoration and protection projects he has completed, all of which have helped rebuild and protect shoreline and habitat in this vulnerable area.

In recognition of his many accomplishments and technical skill, the Louisiana chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers named Charlie Engineer of the Year in 2009. When asked what inspires him after his long tenure in the industry, Charlie mentions his relationships with junior staff. “I enjoy mentoring and training younger engineers and reviewing their approach and applications to solve engineering opportunities. We learn from each other.”

In his leisure time, Charlie likes to hunt and fish, and he’s a regular at New Orleans Saints home games. He also collects war movies and watches the Military and History channels on television. Even though he may be away from the office, Charlie is always thinking about whatever technical challenge he is trying to solve at the moment. “It is possible that I do my best engineering planning and solving project issues in the morning at home when I wake up. My subconscious is at work.”
