Meet Claudia De La Via
Staff Environmental Engineer

Remedial investigation and feasibility study (RI/FS)
Manufactured gas plant (MGPs)
Non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs)

Seattle, WA

As an environmental engineer, Claudia spends her days on a variety of tasks, from due diligence documentation to field investigations of former industrial sites. “I am inspired by the opportunity to be involved with legacy sites and aiming to find closure and remedy,” she says. One of her proudest moments at GeoEngineers was completing her first remedial investigation report, which was on a reclaimed manufactured gas plant site in Seattle.

“What I like most about working at GeoEngineers is the flexibility to be involved in various stages of projects. We are given the opportunity to have ownership of our work, plus the people are great,” Claudia says.

Claudia first joined GeoEngineers through an internship after graduating from the University of Washington. The mutually beneficial internship soon transitioned into a full-time position and Claudia began her career at GeoEngineers as a Staff Environmental Specialist.

In addition to her work at GeoEngineers, Claudia is active with Engineers Without Borders (EWB). “I have a weak side for EWB—it defined my college experience and what an engineer is,” she says. “Besides completing engineering design projects and construction in remote communities, it involves building community relationships. It is a challenge, but overall I enjoy it.”

On the weekends and after hours, Claudia fills her time with half-marathon training, gardening and house repairs. “A good weekend for me is spending it in work clothes in and out of home improvement stores, in crawl spaces or covered with spackle,” she says.
