John told his high school counselor that he was never going to be an engineer, so he didn’t need to stick with senior-level calculus. But once he was in college, John was drawn to science classes like geology, microbiology and physics and became convinced that he should become an environmental engineer.
John manages a variety of projects with contamination-related environmental problems. Many involve environmental site assessments of petroleum-, metals- and hazardous waste-contaminated sites. His other projects relate to helping clients use more sustainable operating practices.
One of John’s proudest GeoEngineers projects was the Northtown Square retail development project. “We provided our client with many services from our Spokane office including environmental, geotechnical engineering and special inspections and testing—all during a tight construction schedule. I am most proud of the way our office worked as a team with each other and the client, who received a ‘no further action’ determination from Ecology for the cleanup and a beautiful redevelopment project—smiles all around!”
John’s leisure time is packed with family and creative pursuits. First and foremost, he loves being dad to two little girls. He also likes to camp, hunt and fish, and appreciates that his work improves the environment in his community. Among John’s many creative outlets are woodworking/turning, stained glass craft, photography, making wine, brewing beer and playing the drums.
