The opportunity to piece together clues to solve complex challenges and problems was what first drew Kurt to mineral, oil and gas exploration. As his career has transitioned to environmental remediation over the past 23 years, he has remained excited by the rapid technological changes in this field.
At GeoEngineers, Kurt’s specialty is helping clients navigate regulatory and technical challenges to clean up properties that have been affected by past industrial practices. As CIO, he also has a role in technology leadership for the company. Kurt reflects, “The linkage between the data management, technical analysis and presentation of complex earth science and engineering challenges and the changes and innovation in technology fascinate me.”
He values working with smart people who have diverse ideas and expertise and is proud of the positive impact of their work together: “When I drive by thriving businesses that were once a vacant, contaminated property, I feel proud that we played a part in bringing the property back to productive use.”
When the first hint of fall hits the air and leaves get their first color, Kurt gets a serious case of ski fever. “The perfect vacations for my wife Debbie and me include hours of hard skiing, hiking or biking every day in various places around the world. It's a way to get great exercise and experience a variety of people and cultures.” Kurt loves to observe and learn about the geology in the places the family visits in their travels.
