A love of the outdoors, an interest in biology and the desire to learn about aquatic environments drew Marcelle to the fisheries biology field. At GeoEngineers, she manages the Puget Sound region’s water resources group, where she and her teams provide clients with habitat assessments, critical areas permitting, river services, water rights and utility corridor planning services.
Marcelle’s job requiries an understanding of client needs and desires, and the ability to pull together teams with the expertise and skill sets to provide integrated, efficient support. She elaborates, “Most of my colleagues are passionate about what they do, and they do it well. Our geologists and biologists see the world holistically, as a sum of many different parts. To have similar, but varied skill sets makes the work we do so much more interesting when developing solutions to a problem.”
The satisfaction of seeing environmentally sensitive areas protected and restored or a construction project completed are big motivators for Marcelle. “I particulary like long-term projects where I can develop a relationship with a client, understand their vision, and then assist in any way we can to get the project completed,” she explains.
When her outdoor work is done, Marcelle heads back outside for alpine skiing, snowshoeing, golfing, hiking and traveling. Having recently battled cancer, Marcelle has new appreciation for life’s daily rituals and joys. She is especially enjoying cooking and spending time with her kids, friends and two large mutt rescue dogs—except for having to sweep up copious amounts of dog hair!
