Mike is a civil engineer who works on river, stream and floodplain projects, with an affinity for restoring riverine systems to their natural condition and function. Mike explains, “All of our clients and everyone on GeoEngineers’ ‘River Team’ have a deep-seated passion for enhancing rivers, streams and habitat. This shared passion inspires close collaboration which continually encourages us to improve the environment, ourselves and our profession.”

One of Mike’s Idaho projects exemplifies how a diverse group of people can work together to make a significant positive impact on the environment. For the Targhee and Howard Creeks Fish Passage project, GeoEngineers restored access to trout habitat by replacing several impassable culverts with two bridges and associated stream enhancements. Mike and his team led a collaborative effort between politicians, non-profit organizations and government agencies that resulted in the project being completed in less than one year instead of the usual six to eight years. After the first spawning season, over 30,000 Cutthroat fry returned to Henry’s Lake from the newly accessed streams.

Mike is a founding member and president of the Idaho Section of the American Water Resources Association (IDAWRA). He represents IDAWRA within the local chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ACEC) as the group develops a Report Card on Idaho’s infrastructure.

Mike loves canoeing, kayaking, rafting and fishing, and being able to work on rivers and streams for a living. He’s excited about rafting with his young daughter on Idaho’s rivers and his upcoming Grand Canyon rafting trip adventure.
