Rob credits witnessing the early PC revolution with connecting his passion for science with the computer science work he enjoys today. While in college, he worked in one of the nation’s earliest Macintosh computer labs and got his hands on an early Windows 2.1 desktop computer. Then an internship at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation spurred Rob toward a career that combines technology with earth sciences.

As a solution architect and member of GeoEngineers’ Applied Technology team, Rob specializes in software and application design and has a leadership role in environmental data management. He enjoys seeing the satisfaction of clients working with tools the team develops. “I love seeing a client’s excitement when their product comes together. For them it means something better. Perhaps it’s something easier to use or faster or more accurate than before—they can truly do their jobs better and easier. They get that feeling similar to receiving the keys to a new car or new house.” Rob adds, “It’s highly satisfying to talk to a client years later and hear that the tool I helped create is still a successful centerpiece of their daily workflow.”

Rob recalls one particular GeoEngineers project that was a personal highlight: “I was an expert witness, helping defend WSDOT in a federal court. I was able to fully apply my science and technology backgrounds in the courtroom, combining live 3D visualization and GIS along with solid scientific principles to help win the case.”

When he’s not working, Rob stays busy with his wife and four young children. He likes to be involved with the community as well and enjoys coaching chess, baseball and soccer teams.
