Sunil is a staff engineer who designs shallow and deep foundations for structures such as tanks and bridges. He also carries out a variety of field work. Sunil says he likes everything about his job, from logging soil borings to writing proposals. “Every new project is different and inspires me to excel in the work I do.”

Mastering new skills under the watchful eye of senior staff is a challenge that Sunil enjoys. He describes two projects where he did just that, the Doullut Canal Bridge project near Empire, LA and the Pinnacle Casino project in Baton Rouge, LA. On the bridge project, he tested and monitored deep foundations with high-strain dynamic testing and performed bearing analyses with CAPWAP® software, which uses data obtained with a Pile Driving Analyzer to estimate total bearing capacity of piles or shafts. On the casino project, he installed eight inclinometers to measure the angles of slopes. He set up all of the associated computer equipment and configured its security settings, expanding his computer-related knowledge in the process.

“I worked for a few civil engineering firms after my undergrad degree, and based on that experience, I can definitely say that GeoEngineers has a much better environment for a learner like me. The senior engineers are very accessible and eager to listen to all types of engineering problems. That has really helped me solve a lot of them quickly.” Sunil adds, “The Baton Rouge team is a group of hard-working engineers and we always try to help our clients by not just using the knowledge we have, but also by acquiring new skills required for a particular project.”

When his work week is done, Sunil recharges by playing soccer every weekend, and meeting and visiting with friends.
