As a senior geotechnical engineer, Kirk plays a crucial role in managing a diverse range of technically challenging projects, with a focus on those in the transportation sector. His responsibilities span from planning field programs and conducting technical briefings with field staff to overseeing engineering analyses, preparing technical reports, and managing client communications.

With a strong background in pavements and materials engineering, Kirk specializes in pavement design, asphalt and concrete mix design, and pavement condition analysis. He has extensive experience working on federal projects, including work with the FAA, NPS, FHWA, and various branches of the U.S. Military. Additionally, Kirk has worked on municipal transportation projects for agencies like UDOT, ITD, and ADOT, giving him a well-rounded understanding of both public and private sector needs.

Kirk’s interest in geotechnical engineering began in third grade, inspired by his uncle, a regional WyDOT engineer who managed a major landslide event in Wyoming’s Snake River Canyon. “I knew I wanted to be a geotechnical engineer after hearing those stories,” he recalls. “I loved the idea of playing with rocks and dirt while having a meaningful career that benefited the public.”

Before joining GeoEngineers, Kirk earned a B.S. from Utah State University and an M.S. from Brigham Young University. He spent several years at Kleinfelder, Terracon, and Landmark Testing and Engineering, gaining valuable experience that has shaped his approach to complex engineering projects.

Looking ahead, Kirk is focused on contributing to GeoEngineers’ continued success. “I want to be part of the winning team that clients easily trust to provide quality, client-specific, optimized engineering solutions with integrity,” he says.

Outside of work, Kirk enjoys spending time with his wife and four kids. He’s passionate about coaching sports, dirt biking, camping, hiking, and fishing. He also enjoys writing poetry, golfing, and gardening.
