Senior Field Technician

 As a Senior Field Technician, you will be responsible for supporting the daily field work of various projects within the geotechnical discipline. This is an intermediate technician role responsible for mentoring junior technicians and supporting engineers and scientists with project-related deliverables. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates field operations including direction of other field staff as needed. Monitors and guides junior field staff and subcontractors as required.
  • Completes detailed explorations and construction activities as they related to the company’s services.
  • Collects field samples (soil, groundwater, surface water, concrete, etc.) in accordance with established protocols.
  • Produces detailed, accurate field notes and prepares field reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintains and operates field equipment/instrumentation in accordance with specified procedures.
  • Serves as a resource for other field staff regarding safety best practices in the field.
  • May assist with laboratory testing as needed.
  • May perform technical data analysis and research.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree or advanced training preferred.
  • 3 years of related field experience. Experience within appropriate discipline (geotechnical, environmental, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • Completion of appropriate health and safety certification (i.e. Nuclear Density Gauge training, 40 Hour HAZWOPER training, etc.) required.
  • Professional-level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to interact with clients and staff professionally and respectfully.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high level of initiative, effectively meet set deadlines and adapt to changing requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • One year of driving experience in the United States. Consideration will be provided for international driving experience.
  • Desire and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • All candidates are subject to completing a background check, and reference check.
  • All candidates are subject to complete drug/alcohol testing.
  • All candidates are required to participate in our medical surveillance program.
  • Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities and do heavy work including exerting up to 50 pounds of force on occasion.
  • Ability to perform consistent work on a PC with prolonged sitting and view of a monitor/screen.
  • Ability to travel for short-term and long-term assignments as needed.
  • All employees are responsible for conducting their work in a safe manner. This includes identifying potential safety hazards and reporting them to the designated project manager in a timely manner and participating in project safety briefings. This also includes wearing appropriate safety equipment when working in the field and completing all required health & safety training prior to beginning fieldwork.
  • Time in the field is likely to exceed 90% of a work week. Duration of assignments will vary but will typically not exceed four weeks in length.

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position, located in our Redmond, WA office is $28.08 – $42.12 an hour. Our best estimate of the salary range for this position, located in our Tacoma, WA office is $27.21 – $40.87 an hour. Compensation offered will be based on a variety of individual factors, including education and experience, as well as internal equity. GeoEngineers’ salary ranges are reviewed and updated each year, and employees are eligible for pay increases based on individual performance. As part of our competitive total rewards package, employees in this role may also be eligible for our annual year-end bonus offering, subject to program eligibility requirements.
