Senior Project Accountant

The Senior Project Accountant is responsible for supporting the company’s Finance department on a variety of project accounting, billing, and audit processes. Supports and maintains processes related to Federal, State, and Local government contracts, including project set up, closure, billing requirements, and client satisfaction. This role builds a bridge between client satisfaction and the financial aspects of project delivery and supports our operational leaders and the broader community of principals, associates, and other staff. Assists project managers in the completion of project milestones and supports our Operations teams in achieving company-wide and regional goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with the development of billing rates and cost proposals in connection with contracts subject to Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).
  • Supports and maintains project setup and closures, ensuring completeness and accuracy of project information. Proposes process and system improvements as needed.
  • Prepares client invoices in accordance with the contract terms and clients’ invoicing schedules.
  • Provides month-end reporting on project performance, including cost variances, profitability, and all other financial aspects. Prepares specialized reports and accounting data analysis as requested.
  • Prepares journal entries such as revenue adjustments, cost accruals, labor reclasses, ect.
  • Monitors project balances on Accounts Receivable, WIP, Unbilled and Unearned items.
  • Follows company policies, procedures, and US GAAP, FAR overhead audit requirements and internal controls and provides feedback for improvement.
  • Maintains communication with project teams during entire project life cycles and provides support and guidance throughout project processes. Provides work guidance and support to internal and external clients.
  • Partners with other company departments, clients, and outside vendors to resolve cross-functional matters and ensures project deadlines are met.
  • Supports and participates in overhead and government agreement audits.
  • Performs additional accounting tasks as assigned by the Project Accounting Manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field.
  • 5 years of progressive experience in a corporate accounting environment; 7 years of related experience preferred. Experience in a professional services firm a plus.
  • 2 years of experience invoicing and managing Federal, State, and Local government contracts.
  • Demonstrated experience invoicing and managing Federal, State, and Local government contracts that are subject to FAR, including cost-reimbursable contracts.
  • Previous experience interpreting contracts for financial aspects of project terms and monitoring projects for compliance with stated terms.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook). Strong ERP system experience; experience with Deltek Vision a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience effectively managing multiple priorities and projects with critical deadlines. Ability to consistently meet deadlines and complete projects as defined.
  • Professional-level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve problems in a timely and positive manner.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

  • All candidates are subject to completing a background check, and reference check.
  • Normal office environment with moderate noise levels, occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs., prolonged sitting and regular walking, bending, standing and reaching.
  • Ability to perform consistent work on a PC with prolonged view of a monitor/screen.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally as needed.

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position, located in Redmond, WA, is $73,300 – $110,100 annually. Compensation offered will be based on a variety of individual factors, including education and experience, as well as internal equity. GeoEngineers’ salary ranges are reviewed and updated each year and employees are eligible for pay increases based on individual performance. As part of our competitive total rewards package, employees in this role may also be eligible for our annual year-end bonus offering, subject to program eligibility requirements.
