Nick Thoman shows off an Olympic Medal while hanging out at GeoEngineers’ Tacoma office.

A random meeting between GeoEngineers CEO Mike Hutchinson and Olympic Swimmer Nick Thoman jump-started a conversation on mastery, and we captured it on The Dirt Podcast. Nick talks to Mike about mastery, hard work and what it takes to succeed at such a high level—in sports, business or life.

Nick won two world titles as a member of US relay teams at the FINA World Aquatics Championships, and earned two Olympic medals in the 2012 Olympic games in London. He placed second in the individual 100-meter backstroke event, and received a gold medal for his role on Michael Phelps’ 4×100-meter medley relay team. From 2009 to 2015 Nick also held the world record in the 100-meter backstroke (short course).
