Former MoDOT Geotechnical Director Joins GeoEngineers

Michael Fritz, PE, RG

GeoEngineers, Inc. is pleased to announce Michael A. Fritz, PE, RG has joined the company as a senior geotechnical engineer in its Springfield, Missouri office. Prior to joining GeoEngineers, Fritz spent 29 years with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). He was Geotechnical Director at the agency from 1993 to 2012.

Mike Fritz’s experience adds depth to GeoEngineers’ well-established geotechnical engineering team and will help grow the company’s transportation-market reach in the Midwest. GeoEngineers has worked regularly with several departments of transportation across the country, and its professionals have provided services for more than 3,000 transportation projects firm wide. GeoEngineers’ Springfield office, where Fritz will be based, has worked with MoDOT on several projects in the area, including a current project in St. Louis County along Highway 109.

The Geotechnical Section’s work that Fritz managed at MoDOT provided preliminary engineering for the agency’s Design and Bridge Divisions, and also helped solve construction and maintenance issues with field and laboratory testing, drilling services, geologic interpretation and engineering evaluation. In addition, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) recognized MoDOT’s Geotechnical Section as one of the best in the nation under Fritz’ leadership.

Fritz has nearly three decades of experience as a geotechnical engineer in the transportation industry. In his long career with MoDOT, he provided technical support for every MoDOT district and engineering division as well as providing expert witness for the chief counsel’s office. Fritz has worked extensively with consultants, other state agencies and the general public.

He has also been active in transportation industry and professional organizations, including participating on many regional and national groups such as the FHWA Multi-Regional Training and Certification Team and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials/Strategic Highway Research Program (AASHTO/SHRP) Lead States Team.

Fritz has been active in the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers, serving as state director for 15 years, as a chapter past president and chairing and serving on various statewide task forces and committees. In addition, Fritz found time to actively participate in the Association of Missouri Geologists, the Transportation Engineers Association of Missouri and Boy Scouts of America.
