Four teams, representing almost 10 percent of GeoEngineers’ staff, completed the 2013 Ski to Sea Race over Memorial Day weekend in Whatcom County near Bellingham, Wash. The 32 relay racers, sponsored by GeoEngineers, covered more than 93 miles from Mt. Baker to Bellingham Bay, competing in seven different sports: cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, running, road biking, canoeing, mountain biking and kayaking.
Senior Geotechnical Engineer Bert Pschunder turned in a strong time in cross-country skiing to take 28th place overall out of 500 racers in his leg. This race also marks the seventh for Senior Geotechnical Engineer Sean Cool, who has now completed every leg of the race over the years.
The festivities and fun started with a pre-race dinner on Saturday night at the GeoEngineers office in Bellingham. The racers got an early start on Sunday at 4:45 a.m. and battled soggy, rainy weather for most of the race. The teams wrapped things up for the day with a post-party gathering and GeoEngineers medal ceremony. The Bellingham office took gold, the Tacoma office silver, the multi-office team bronze, and the Redmond office went home with the “participant” award.
This is the fifth year GeoEngineers has sponsored teams for the race, and plans are already underway for next year.
