GeoEngineers has opened a new office in San Diego, California to better serve clients in the region. The office will initially focus on geotechnical engineering, earthquake engineering, temporary construction and dam engineering. The San Diego team’s experience is supported by a diverse team of more than 300 experienced earth scientists and engineers from across the country.
While its San Diego office is new, GeoEngineers is no stranger to Southern California. The firm has already completed performance-based analyses for clients in the region, including the Naval Medical Center San Diego Hospital Building Seismic Retrofit, Naval Base San Diego Pier 8 Replacement Design Build Project, and 29 Palms Naval Hospital Building Seismic Retrofit.
These projects were informed by GeoEngineers’ experience working under the more rigorous site-specific seismic analyses requirements in the most recent American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) International Building Code (ASCE 7-16). Jurisdictions across the country have already adopted these new standards. GeoEngineers’ specialists are using a performance-based approach in California, Washington, Oregon, Utah and beyond to more precisely model ground motion and decrease required seismic loads—potentially reducing construction costs significantly for clients.

As a firm born in the hydro-powered Pacific Northwest, GeoEngineers also knows dam engineering. The company’s geotechnical specialists know how to reduce risks for our clients while helping them stay safe and compliant with state and federal regulations. From seismic and soil-liquefaction risk analysis to FERC compliance and data monitoring, GeoEngineers is ready to serve dam and levee owners in Southern California.
Additionally, heavy civil contractors in the San Diego market may also find value in the suite of interdisciplinary engineering design services offered by GeoEngineers’ national construction-design team. The centerpiece of the team’s practice includes temporary structural design, geotechnical investigation and design, ground improvement design, temporary excavation support, soil-structure interaction, seismic modeling and dewatering—all under one roof.
