Alicia Sellers Receives 2019 ASCE Outreach Award

Congratulations to Alicia Sellers for receiving the 2019 ASCE Baton Rouge Chapter Outreach Award. We are proud of Alicia’s incredible work volunteering her time to organize and conduct educational workshops that introduce kids to the world of engineering. ASCE awarded Alicia with the 2019 Outreach Award on Thursday, June 20th at the Past President’s luncheon in Baton Rouge, where Jim Aronstein (Baton Rouge) was also recognized as a past president of the chapter.

Since stepping into her new role as Younger Member Chair of the Baton Rouge chapter, Alicia has led ASCE’s local outreach effort to spread their Intro to Engineering workshop to schools throughout Baton Rouge. In the workshop, Alicia and other professional engineers conduct a one-hour presentation introducing students to the different engineering disciplines, followed by interactive activities like building a straw bridge.

To continue outreach into the Fall semester, Alicia has been working with Volunteers in Public Schools to connect with more area principals interested in hosting ASCE’s engineering workshop at their schools.
