The seminar will cover the potential environmental impacts of PFAS (per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances) and the need for trustworthy and consistent analytical methods for this class of synthetic fluorine compounds. PFAS repel water and oil, so they have found their way into a variety of consumer products and even firefighting foams. These compounds can take decades or more to break down, meaning PFAS can be very persistent in the environment.
