On February 13, Drilling Services Manager Kyle Kilfian and Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer Blake Cotton attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Magnolia Power Plant, a state-of-the-art natural gas plant that GeoEngineers has been working on for several years. GeoEngineers provided the initial geotechnical investigation and recommendations, geotechnical designs, and geotechnical services for access roads and bridges directly for Magnolia. GeoEngineers also provided supplemental services for the project contractor, Kiewit Corporation. GeoEngineers’ team will continue to provide geotechnical services throughout the final phases of project construction.
“It has been amazing to see this project go from concept to construction,” Cotton says, “it’s a great win for Louisiana!”
When the completed facility comes online sometime in 2025, it will offer unprecedented fuel source flexibility. It will initially be powered by natural gas but has the capability to switch to hydrogen fuel as soon as it becomes available—and even incorporates geo-thermal energy to generate additional power.
