Staff Geological Engineer
- Spokane, WA
Justin provides support to the environmental team by collecting groundwater and soil samples, installing monitoring wells and drafting technical reports. “I’ve always been an outdoors type of person, so pursuing a career in the earth-science field seemed like a natural fit,” Justin says.
Prior to joining GeoEngineers, Justin worked seasonally as an exploration geologist for a large phosphate mine in southeastern Idaho, then as a field geologist for a small consulting firm working primarily in oil and gas exploration in western Colorado. Most recently he worked as a geologist with the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service. “My time spent in mining, oil and gas exploration provided me with a wide range of experience in drilling techniques,” he says. “My time with the USDA Forest Service introduced me to our National Environmental Policy Act and the wide variety of analysis and different specialists that are involved in permitting mining operations on federal lands.”
Currently a graduate student at the University of Idaho, Justin is nearing completion of a master of science in geological engineering. “Now that I am near completing this degree, I decided it was time to join a company like GeoEngineers that could offer me a wide range of challenging projects and provide me with ample room to grow,” Justin says.
When not busy with work or his studies, you can find Justin enjoying the outdoors pretty much any time of year, from hiking to camping to hunting and more. “I also really enjoy afternoon walks with my wife and dogs, as well as bike rides and catching up on our regular shows that have been stored on the DVR for far too long,” he says.
