Melissa is an environmental engineer who splits her time between environmental cleanup for redevelopment projects and managing compliance issues for industrial clients. Her work protects the environment and our clients by helping them reduce risks and achieve their goals efficiently within applicable laws and regulations.

“Environmental compliance is often something where clients can find themselves being reactionary,” Melissa explains. “I want to bring forward-thinking, proactive strategies to my clients that can reduce their risks and bring them a good return on their consulting investment.”

As an environmental engineer, Melissa uses chemistry to investigate and understand how contaminants are impacting or moving through a site. Once a site is characterized, she recommends and designs remediation strategies like in-situ chemical oxidation, soil vapor extraction, and groundwater pump and treat systems to clean up persistent environmental contaminants in soil or groundwater.

“I love applied chemistry,” Melissa says, “and environmental engineering allows me to use my knowledge to resolve legacy problems and prevent environmental damage in the future.”

Melissa has extensive experience with site characterization, remedial system design and implementation, and air quality permitting, and she has coordinated large-scale environmental sampling programs across the Pacific Northwest. Over the years her industrial compliance work has also helped Melissa satisfy her natural curiosity about a wide variety of manufacturing processes.

“As an engineer, learning how things work is always so much fun,” Melissa says. “I love getting to peak behind the curtain and learn about how everyday things are made—from bakery products to aeronautical parts.”

Outside of work, you might find Melissa cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family. She is embracing snow sports after moving to the Spokane area, but Melissa’s favorite place in the world is their family cabin on Lake Pend Oreille in the Idaho Panhandle.
