People are the heart of all we do as a firm, and Melvin is responsible for finding the best. As a recruiter, he works to match our personnel needs with talented engineers, scientists and other professionals across the country. Melvin manages all phases of recruitment, including identifying recruiting needs, interviewing, vetting, onboarding and orientation for new hires.
“I’m naturally a very social person so this career path fits my personality and skill set perfectly,” Melvin says.
Before joining GeoEngineers, Melvin was with a recruiting agency that worked for utility companies in the Midwest. Melvin’s experience hiring different types of engineers for different companies and contexts gave him a broad understanding of how to recruit effectively in the A/E/C industry.
“I also worked with many engineering firms on the sale side of recruiting,” Melvin says, “so I have some insight on what our competition is doing when it comes to hiring engineers.”
Melvin also takes every opportunity to learn more about the technical side of GeoEngineers’ work. His curiosity and passion for learning means he’s always picking up something new.
“Everyone here is knowledgeable and pleasant to be around,” Melvin says. “Best of all I will never be the smartest person in the room, so I can learn a lot about many different things.”
When he’s not recruiting for GeoEngineers, Melvin might be doing some recruiting of his own. He’s a big basketball fan and is working to promote and launch a new disruptive women’s basketball league called the WPBL (Women’s Professional Basketball League). If Melvin ever takes a break from his passion projects, you might find him chilling at home with an album or two.
“I love just sitting back and listening to music,” he says. “It sounds boring but to me it’s heaven.”
