Meet Penelope “Penny” Levitt, GeoEngineers’ resident Jester and full-time chaos coordinator. Penny works closely with her human, Amanda, keeping morale high by ensuring that at least once a day, someone bursts out laughing at her antics—or marveling at how a creature so tiny can generate so much energy.

Penny’s career began with a college-era rescue mission. Amanda got the call from her foster shelter: they had a “spicy” kitty in need of a temporary home. Within minutes of meeting, Penny latched onto Amanda’s arm with the speed and precision of a tiny furry velociraptor, kicking and biting with glee. It was the beginning of a beautiful, slightly unhinged friendship. After a short break for medical treatment, Penny rejoined Amanda permanently, ready to take the world (and the furniture) by storm.

Penny has cerebellar hypoplasia—also known as wobbly cat syndrome—which only adds to her charm and comedic timing. She may not be able to jump, but she’s perfected the art of the dramatic stumble, the 180-degree head swivel, and the “in-and-out-but-no-business” litterbox routine. She also answers to her name, which is impressive for any cat, though she reserves the right to pretend she didn’t hear you.

When she’s off the clock, Penny enjoys racking up 30,000 steps a day in indoor laps, chasing her own shadow, lounging in recently used showers, and staging elaborate hunger strikes by sitting at her food bowls until someone caves. She’s also a connoisseur of freeze-dried minnows and Mayo-Chup—though she will tolerate neither ambulances nor nail clippers.

With her spunk, sass, and slapstick grace, Penny proves daily that you don’t have to walk a straight line—or jump—to make a big impression.
