Expertise
Petra is a geotechnical scientist based in our Lake Oswego office who supports projects through both field involvement and technical analysis. She monitors field explorations and construction activities, collects samples, and provides real-time observations, while also contributing to data interpretation, analysis, and geotechnical evaluations to support informed project decisions.
With a strong background in fieldwork and research, Petra has developed a keen attention to detail and a sharp eye for quality assurance. These skills have been valuable in her role, where precision and thoroughness are essential.
Her path to geotechnical engineering was gradual, shaped by a growing interest in infrastructure development and planning. “There wasn’t a single moment that led me towards this field,” Petra explains, “but rather a slow series of events that reflected my expanding curiosity and experience.” She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Engineering from San Francisco State University, an Associate of Applied Science in Civil Engineering Technology from Bellingham Technical College and is currently in a Master’s program at Portland State University.
Before joining GeoEngineers, Petra’s work centered around plant biology and invasive species management, which combined field research with public outreach. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she shifted her focus toward civil engineering.
Petra appreciates the variety her job offers and enjoys the opportunity to travel to different sites. Since recently relocating to Portland, she values the chance to explore the local area through her work.
Looking ahead, Petra aims to gain hands-on experience and contribute meaningfully to projects at GeoEngineers. She hopes to further her education and advance her career within the company, eventually taking on greater responsibilities to help develop innovative engineering solutions.
Outside of work, Petra is an avid forager and amateur spoon carver who loves cooking with mushrooms she collects each autumn. She also looks forward to exploring leatherworking and sewing as ways to create and repair items for friends.
