Ryan worked for 13 years as a civil engineer in the land-development industry before returning to college to earn a master’s degree in water resources engineering. He also worked as a hydraulics engineer for the Idaho Transportation Department prior to accepting a job at GeoEngineers.

“The water resources engineer position is a perfect fit with my career desires and educational training,” Ryan reflects. “I enjoy the balance of working outside in the river environment and providing analysis and design within the office setting. I appreciate the opportunity to apply past work experience as well as my recent water-resources-specific experience and education every day.”

Ryan provides qualitative and quantitative analyses for water resource related projects that include river restoration to improve aquatic habitat, overall river function, protection of human safety and property and other human interests associated with river function. He investigates field conditions on site, modeling flow conditions with appropriate computer technologies and applying engineering judgment where applicable. He also maintains relationships with current GeoEngineers clients.

Ryan spends the majority of his spare time with his family. When he heads out to play, snow skiing tops his list of outdoor passions, closely followed by biking and golfing. The outdoorsman sees strong connections between his work and play: “I have a personal interest in assuring that future generations will have an opportunity to experience some of the incredible outdoor amenities that I have. My work at GeoEngineers allows me to assure river environments function in a healthy and sustainable way.”
