As an environmental geologist, Tim looks for contamination in our soil and groundwater, evaluates it, and makes cleanup recommendations. When our clients purchase or develop a commercial property, they want to understand their risks. Environmental contamination can complicate development plans and affect property value. Tim helps them evaluate properties and recommend cleanup actions when necessary.

“Every project is very different and has its own challenges and rewards,” Tim explains. “Each time we assist a client with managing their environmental liability, and move another site down the assessment and remedial action path, we learn a bit more about our local community and are supporting environmental responsibility.”

Tim’s love of the natural world came early. He started down the path toward earth sciences and geology as a wide-eyed middle school student, amazed at the natural features he visited during field trips.

“I vividly remember seeing local areas around Minnesota, including the rock cliffs along the St. Croix River,” Tim says, “and being excited when I learned that people could study and work in such amazing places.”

After graduate school, Tim got a job at a consulting firm working for the United States Environmental Protection Agency. He gained experience investigating the large environmental remediation sites falling under the Superfund program before shifting to work for the industries being regulated. His experience on both sides of regulation gave Tim the tools to help clients understand their obligations under various regulatory frameworks and make wise decisions for themselves and the environment.

“I love the solitude of the outdoors, but also like sharing those places with others and being out in the world,” Tim says. “On any weekend, you might find me outside during the day being active, then later at a crowded venue for music or a Sounders (soccer) match.”

In addition to soccer and music, Tim likes to ski, hike, and travel in his spare time. Most of all, Tim thrives on the community aspect of sharing these special experiences with others like himself.
