Geotechnical engineers like Valerie spend a lot of their time in the field, collecting soil samples, assessing sites, coordinating with contractors and observing construction. Valerie joined GeoEngineers right after completing her master’s degree at UC Davis in 2021, and this hands-on work is giving Valerie a solid foundation from which to grow in her career.

“I was excited about the opportunity to have some time in the field before transitioning to office work,” Valerie says. “I think it is important to have an understanding of all the moving parts in the field when working on a geotechnical design.”

Originally from California, Valerie moved to Seattle when she joined GeoEngineers. She’s enjoying the chance to familiarize herself with the local engineering and construction industry and explore a new area.

“I enjoy hiking and going on long morning walks to new coffee shops,” Valerie says. “During COVID I got very into sewing and accumulated one too many houseplants , so I am hoping both of those interests will help keep me sane through the Seattle winters.”
